Mediation is a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) which aims to assist two or more people who are in dispute to reach an agreement. The goal is for the parties themselves to solve the dispute, rather than having to accept a decision imposed by a Court or a Tribunal.
Mediators use various techniques designed to create a dialogue between the parties, aiming to help them reach an agreement. The mediator is impartial and does not impose his or her own views on the parties. Mediation is a voluntary process.
The Wollongong Mediation Centre provides a forum for parties to a dispute to consider settlement solutions for their issues. Mediation provides a cheaper, faster and more flexible and creative avenue to resolve a dispute than would be available to parties in Court.
